Empowerment through sports and education

Founder

Felix Mbakaya, Founder

Felix Mbakaya is the founder of Ewito. He is among the last born children in his family and was a beneficiary of the generosity and upbringing of his elder siblings. He learned the importance of giving back to society from his siblings and the community that raised him and hopes to use Ewito to share with others and give those in need similar opportunities to what he had.

Felix moved to Switzerland and faced the challenge of discovering a new culture and new language. He had the privilege of working with youth in learning institutions and was able to break cultural barriers and quickly integrate through sporting activities.

Felix and his late brother met old friends in 2014 when he was on holiday in Kenya. They rekindled memories of playing football using balls weaved from polythene bags and banana fiber and decided to replay the memories. They organized a football tournament with CHF 50 which gave birth to Ewito. The tournament has taken place every year in December since 2014.

Felix has mobilized his network of friends and engagement as a junior football coach at the FC Konolfingen to collect used playing kits from FC Konolfingen and other football clubs within Switzerland which are sent to support the teams participating in the Ewito tournaments.
